  東日本大震災の影響により市役所本庁舎の耐震強度が低下したことから、道路を挟んだ北側の場所に本庁舎を移転して建て替えすることになり、2012年10月1日からは別棟の市民課を除き、本庁舎内の各課を市役所周辺の施設に移転させた上、習志野市津田沼五丁目（京成津田沼駅前）の以前ホテルが入っていた建物も仮庁舎として使用した。 このときの経緯が書かれている『千葉郡町村分合取調』にある「新村名選定ノ理由」には、比較的大きな三ヶ村からとって名付けられたと記述されているが、「久々田村二菊田ノ地名アリ、著名ナルヲ以テ、今其地名二従ヒ」と書かれた部分に赤線が引かれて消されているという。
